How to Choose a Web Designer in Laredo

The questions to ask, the red flags to watch for and what a good website project should include.

Start with your goal

Before you compare designers, decide what the website needs to do. More calls? Online orders? Appointment bookings? A good designer will ask about your goals before talking about colors and fonts.

Nine questions to ask

  • Can I see websites you've built for businesses like mine?
  • Is the price fixed, and what exactly is included?
  • Who owns the domain, the content and the website?
  • Will the website be built for SEO from the start?
  • Will it work well on phones?
  • Who writes the content? Can you write in Spanish?
  • How long will it take, and what do you need from me?
  • What happens after launch? Who do I call for changes?
  • What are the ongoing monthly costs?

Red flags

  • They register your domain in their name
  • No portfolio, or only templates
  • Prices that change after the project starts
  • No mention of mobile design or SEO
  • Long contracts that are hard to cancel
  • They can't explain things in plain language

Local vs. out of town

You can hire a designer from anywhere, but a local team understands Laredo's market: bilingual customers, the border economy and which neighborhoods you serve. You can also meet in person when it matters.
