How Google decides who shows up
For local searches, Google looks at three main things: relevance (does your business match the search?), distance (how close are you to the searcher?) and prominence (how well known and trusted is your business?). You can't move your location, but you can improve relevance and prominence.
Step 1: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the listing that appears on Google Maps. Fill out every field: categories, services, hours, photos, description and service area. Choose the most specific primary category, like "Mexican restaurant" instead of "restaurant." Read our Google Business Profile guide for details.
Step 2: Give every service its own page
If you're a contractor who does roofing, siding and gutters, a single "Services" page won't rank for all three. Build a page for each service, written for the people searching for it, and mention Laredo naturally.
Step 3: Keep your name, address and phone consistent
Your business name, address and phone number should match everywhere: your website, Google, Facebook, Yelp, the Laredo Chamber of Commerce and industry directories. Inconsistent listings confuse Google and customers.
Step 4: Earn reviews, and respond to them
Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking factors. Ask happy customers right after a good experience, make it easy with a direct link, and respond to every review, positive or negative.
Step 5: Don't ignore Spanish searches
Many Laredo customers search in Spanish: "dentista cerca de mí," "taller mecánico Laredo TX." Spanish pages and a bilingual Google Business Profile description help you show up for those searches, which often have less competition.
Step 6: Make your website fast and mobile-friendly
Most local searches happen on phones. A slow site loses visitors and rankings. Check your site with Google's PageSpeed Insights and fix the biggest issues first.
How long until I see results?
Businesses that complete these steps often see Google Maps improvements within weeks. Competitive searches take longer. Consistency wins: keep adding photos, posts, reviews and helpful content. If you'd like help, see our local SEO service.
